Are you self-conscious about your smile because of the colour of your teeth?
This is a common problem that can be easily fixed with a teeth whitening treatment.
The EasySmile practices offer both conventional bleaching and advanced laser based treatments to lighten the colour of your teeth to a more desirable shade.
Whilst home whitening kits are available to buy over the counter, we do not recommend these as they are not as effective or long lasting as professional treatments. Also, if used incorrectly, they can cause tooth sensitivity and irritation of the gums. Government regulations consider teeth whitening to be a form of dentistry and should only be performed by a dentist or another regulated dental professional, such as a dental hygienist or dental therapist, on the prescription of a dentist.
A bleaching treatment for your teeth involves your dentist taking a mould of your teeth before creating a special tray/mouthguard in which to place the whitening solution. Your EasySmile dentist will instruct you how to use this over a period of time to reach the required results.
A new advanced treatment called laser whitening or “power whitening” is also available. During this procedure a rubber dam is put over your teeth to protect the gums, and a bleaching product is applied onto your teeth. A powerful light or laser is then shone onto the teeth to activate the chemical. The light also serves to speed up and enhance the whitening process and so the colour change can be achieved more quickly. Laser whitening can make teeth up to five or six shades lighter depending on the level of staining and any pre-existing conditions. The effects of this treatment can be seen immediately and the treatment can usually be carried out in just one visit.
Not all patients are suitable for teeth whitening treatments, including those with gum disease. Your dentist will advise you of the options that are right for you and the level of result you can expect.
